Strategic Needs Assessment Visit to Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku Strengthens Hope for Institutional Renewal

By Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi

The atmosphere at the Polytechnic Governing Council Secretariat of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, was filled with anticipation on Friday 14th of November, 2025 as the institution’s management team received a government delegation led by Prof. Hope Eghagha on a strategic assessment visit. The session commenced at exactly 12:00 pm with an opening prayer offered by Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi, Dean School of Applied Sciences, setting a tone of sincerity, reflection, and purpose.

Immediately after the prayer, formal introductions were made—first by the Polytechnic management and then by the visiting government team. The symbolic breaking of kola nut was performed by Dr. Akpoveta Emmanuel, Dean of the School of ICT, invoking unity, prosperity, and goodwill for the deliberations ahead.

The highlight of the meeting was the detailed presentation delivered by the Acting Rector, Dr. Mrs. Erere Joy Anho, who laid out the Polytechnic’s pressing needs, infrastructural challenges, and areas requiring urgent government intervention. Her presentation underscored the institution’s commitment to continued growth despite limitations.

Following the Acting Rector’s remarks, other principal officers contributed key observations. Dr. Nelson Chika Ogonwa, Acting Deputy Rector, after praising the effort of the former commissioner of Higher Education (Prof. Hope) in Staff welfare during his tenure, emphasized the importance of beautification and environmental upliftment, noting that a conducive physical environment improves learning, staff morale, and the institution’s general outlook.

The Director of Works highlighted the urgent need for perimeter fencing, stressing that improved security infrastructure is essential for safeguarding staff, students, and facilities.

Each contribution reinforced the collective aspiration for rebuilding, upgrading, and repositioning the Polytechnic for excellence.

In response, the head of the delegation, Prof. Hope, expressed deep appreciation for the clarity of the presentations and the candidness with which the Polytechnic’s needs were communicated. He assured the management team that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the Governor, with strong optimism that the most pressing needs would receive due attention.

The visit concluded on a note of renewed optimism, with both the Polytechnic management and the government delegation reaffirming their shared commitment to the institution’s growth. Stakeholders expressed confidence that, with sustained collaboration, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, will continue to evolve into a model of academic excellence, infrastructural development, and innovation, offering students and staff an environment that inspires greatness.
