In what will forever be remembered as a day of royal splendour and cultural renaissance, the peaceful town of Udu Kingdom in Delta State witnessed a historic transformation as His Royal Majesty, Engr. Michael Ogheneovo Orugbo, JP, Okporua I, officially received his Staff of Office from the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Dr. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, JP.
The grand ceremony, held amid pomp, colour, and jubilation, symbolised not just the reaffirmation of Udu’s royal heritage but also the beginning of a new chapter of hope, unity, and progress for the entire Udu Kingdom.
Representing the state government with distinction was the Deputy Governor, Chief Sir Monday John Onyema, whose presence added grace and substance to the auspicious occasion.
Among the many dignitaries who rejoiced with the monarch was Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi, the Dean, School of Applied Sciences, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, a distinguished academic, seasoned administrator, and media executive.
Dr. Agbedeyi, who hails from the Ofunama community in the ancient Egbema Kingdom, of Edo and Delta States, and founder of Global Egberi Media International, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the revered king, describing the event as “a divine transition into a new era of wisdom-driven leadership, cultural rebirth, and developmental awakening for the proud sons and daughters of Udu Kingdom.”
He added:
“The presentation of the staff of office to HRM Engr. Michael Ogheneovo Orugbo, JP, Okporua I, is more than a ceremonial endorsement. It is a divine covenant between tradition and transformation — one that will shape the destiny of Udu Kingdom for generations to come. The leadership grace and humility of His Royal Majesty stand as a beacon of hope in this period when unity, peace, and progress are the foundation stones for sustainable development.”
Dr. Agbedeyi also lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his visionary leadership, describing him as “a Governor who honours tradition while building the modern Delta of our dreams.” He further appreciated the Deputy Governor for his unwavering loyalty and presence at the occasion.
In his message to the people of Udu, Dr. Agbedeyi urged them to rally behind their new monarch and the State Government:
“This is the time to unite, to dream again, and to work collectively for progress. Udu Kingdom has always been a cradle of industrious people; with this new chapter, development will flourish if we support our king and government with faith, patience, and cooperation.”
As drums rolled and traditional dancers adorned in radiant attires filled the air with cultural rhythm, the ceremony stood as a testament to the resilience of Udu Kingdom — a land blessed with culture, talent, and unity of purpose.
Indeed, the presentation of the staff of office marks the dawn of renewed royalty — a reign that promises peace, progress, and prosperity for all.
