Gombe State has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of its Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (Rtd), who reportedly lost his life in a ghastly car accident along the Malam Sidi–Gombe Road on Friday.
According to official confirmation obtained by Global Egberi Media International through Naija News and government sources, the retired military officer was returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where he had attended the North-East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Programme before the unfortunate incident occurred.
Tragically, the commissioner’s police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, also died in the crash, while the driver, who sustained severe injuries, is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility in Gombe.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya Mourns a Loyal Servant of the State
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya described the late commissioner as “a disciplined officer, a patriot, and a man of great integrity” who served Gombe State with unmatched commitment and courage.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (Rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage, and selfless service. He carried out his duties with unmatched diligence and a deep sense of responsibility. His demise is a monumental loss not only to his family and our government but to Gombe State and Nigeria at large,”the governor said.
Governor Yahaya further praised the late Bello’s pivotal role in strengthening the security architecture of the state. He highlighted his relentless efforts in promoting inter-agency cooperation and designing policies that contributed to Gombe’s stability and peaceful reputation within the North-East region.
“He worked tirelessly to ensure that Gombe remained one of the most peaceful states in northern Nigeria. His professionalism, discipline, and commitment to national unity will forever remain an inspiration to all,”Yahaya added.
A Life of Discipline and Service Remembered
Before his appointment as Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Bello had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, where he served with honor and dedication. Known among colleagues for his courage and leadership, his transition into public service reflected his lifelong devotion to duty and patriotism.
Many in Gombe have described him as a rare blend of soldier and statesman — a man who carried the same discipline from the battlefield into the cabinet room. His passing, according to residents and political leaders, leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.

Sympathies have continued to flow from across the state and beyond, as community leaders, traditional rulers, and fellow commissioners express grief and solidarity with the bereaved family. The Gombe State Government has assured that full details of the burial arrangements will be made public in due course.
Governor Yahaya extended heartfelt condolences to the families of Col. Abdullahi Bello and Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, praying for the repose of their souls and for divine comfort for their loved ones.
“They died in active service to the state and the nation. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,”he said solemnly.
