The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Chapter, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, has officially declared a two-week warning strike, calling for the immediate dissolution of the institution’s Governing Council and the release of the government’s long-awaited white paper on the prolonged management crisis rocking the school.
In a strongly-worded statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Michael Ogana, the union expressed deep frustration over what it described as the state government’s silence and inaction on key administrative and ethical issues that have crippled the smooth running of the institution for several months.
The statement, titled “The Lingering Issue of Alleged Result Racketeering That Has Brought Our Institution to Disrepute and Disrupted the Smooth Running of Academic Activities,” detailed how internal conflicts and alleged misconduct within the Governing Council have thrown Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, into an unprecedented administrative quagmire.
Union’s Position and Key Demands
ASUP noted that despite numerous correspondences, meetings with state officials, and several issued ultimatums, the Delta State Government has remained unresponsive to the growing tension between the school’s management and the Governing Council.
The union, therefore, resolved to embark on a two-week warning strike “to press home our demands” and to draw attention to the institution’s worsening state of affairs.
Among the union’s major demands are:

Background of the Crisis
According to ASUP, the current crisis dates back to February 2025, when the Governing Council suspended the Registrar of the institution on allegations of result racketeering — actions the union insists were carried out without due diligence or proper investigation.
The situation worsened in July 2025, when the same council, under the chairmanship of its current head, suspended the Rector on alleged financial impropriety — a decision later nullified by the Governor, who described the council’s actions as “ultra vires” and outside its constitutional powers.
These confrontations, the union stated, have led to an “open hostility” between the Management and the Council, effectively paralyzing the school’s operations and plunging the institution into administrative chaos for over eight months.
Reputation and Morale at Stake
The union lamented that the alleged result racketeering scandal, widely circulated across social media platforms, has soiled the reputation of the institution and its staff.
“When we relate with the outside world, we can no longer boldly say we are staff of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku,” the statement read.“Within the work environment, the necessary supplies and resources that make teaching and learning possible have become a far cry.”
The statement further accused the council chairman of frustrating efforts by management to maintain smooth academic operations and of plunging the polytechnic into huge debts running into several millions of naira through alleged frivolous financial demands.
Call for Government Intervention
ASUP urged the Delta State Ministry of Higher Education to urgently wade into the matter by addressing the crisis publicly and implementing reforms that would restore stability and confidence in the institution.
The union warned that if the government failed to act within the two-week period, the situation could escalate beyond control, leading to a total shutdown of academic and administrative activities.
“This strike action is not to disrupt learning, but to save our institution from complete collapse,” the union emphasized.
