The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Chapter, has suspended its two-week warning strike after observing just one week of the industrial action.
The decision was reached during a congress held at the institution on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, chaired by the union’s chairman, Dr. Michael Ogana.
The suspension follows separate meetings held with the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, and the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. (Mrs.) Anho Erere Joy, both of whom passionately appealed to the union to suspend the strike in order to allow the State Government to carry out a thorough and independent investigation into the issues that led to the action.
Background to the Strike
ASUP had declared a two-week warning strike on 21st October 2025, citing several unresolved issues ranging from allegations of certificate and result racketeering, to administrative lapses, and prolonged inaction by the State Government in addressing the internal crisis that had affected the institution’s image and morale.
The union, led by Dr. Michael Ogana, expressed deep concern that the Polytechnic’s reputation was being “dragged through the mud” by allegations of certificate fraud and governance irregularities.
