Adoloseimo II community in Ondo State has debunked fake news linking them to a killing in the forest, demanding a transparent investigation.
Adoloseimo II Community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State has vehemently debunked the circulating allegations on social media claiming that members of the community attacked and killed a man from Kokotoru in a forest. The community described the report as “false, unfounded, and maliciously misleading.”
In a strongly worded press statement made available to reporters by Arogbo-Ibe Voice, community leaders reaffirmed Adoloseimo II’s longstanding reputation as a peace-loving and law-abiding settlement, renowned for its good neighbourliness and mutual respect toward surrounding communities in the Niger Delta region.
Community Denies Involvement, Calls for Truth and Transparency
According to the statement, the people of Adoloseimo II have never been involved in any act of aggression or hostility toward Kokotoru or any other settlement. Instead, they drew public attention to a previous tragedy that befell their own community on August 18, 2025, when they allegedly came under heavy attack from armed individuals suspected to be from Kokotoru.
The incident, they said, led to multiple casualties, with three persons sustaining gunshot wounds and currently receiving medical attention. Tragically, one of the victims, Mr. Abeke Okiriji, was later found dead on August 22, 2025, while another, Mr. Edis Tonwerigha, remains missing to date.
“Our community has endured deep pain and loss from previous aggression, yet we have chosen the path of peace,” the statement reads. “It is therefore disturbing to see false narratives being spread online to portray us as violent people.”
Doubts Over Circulating Images
The community also raised serious concerns over the authenticity of the images being circulated online. Upon reviewing the visuals of the deceased individual allegedly linked to the false report, Adoloseimo II leaders observed that the body appeared to have received some form of medical attention before death, suggesting that the death might not have occurred in the alleged forest altercation.
They further noted that “no visible cut wounds or bodily lacerations” were evident on the corpse, contradicting the violent narrative being peddled by certain individuals seeking to incite public outrage.
Call for Security Investigation
In light of the rising misinformation, Adoloseimo II has officially called on the Nigerian security agencies and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the claims. The community stressed that such an investigation is essential to prevent the spread of fake news capable of inciting unrest or deepening divisions between peaceful neighboring communities.
“We will continue to uphold the values of truth, unity, and peaceful coexistence,” the statement continued. “We urge the general public to disregard any malicious reports aimed at smearing our image or destabilizing our environment.”
Leadership Reiterates Commitment to Peace
The statement was jointly signed by Chief Kowei Kurokokongha D., the Amananawei of Adoloseimo II, and Mr. Digha Akina, Chairman of the Adoloseimo II Community. Both leaders reaffirmed that their people remain committed to justice, unity, and harmonious coexistence in the wider Arogbo-Ibe Kingdom and the Niger Delta region.
“Adoloseimo II has always been a symbol of peace, resilience, and development in Ondo State. We will not allow falsehood to define our community’s identity,” the statement concluded.
