The political atmosphere in Abuja was charged on Tuesday as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, made a fiery return to the National Assembly, launching a direct verbal attack on Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking to journalists immediately after resuming office, which had been sealed for six months following her controversial suspension, Senator Natasha accused Akpabio of running the National Assembly like a “dictatorship” and treating her like “domestic staff.”

Natasha’s office — Room 205 in the Senate wing — was formally unsealed by security personnel and the Sergeant-at-Arms, paving the way for her to resume legislative duties. For the Senator, the moment was more than symbolic.

“It’s actually amazing how much we have had to face and survive in the past six months,” she told reporters.

“From the unjust suspension to the recall, we survived the blockage of roads and waterways into Kogi that forced us to fly in by helicopter. We survived blackmail, we survived harassment. It has been a true test of resilience.”

Natasha had been controversially suspended in March 2025, a move she described as “illegal and unjust.” Her return, she said, was proof that institutions must sometimes be tested to defend democracy.

Without mincing words, Natasha took aim at the Senate President, accusing him of abusing power.

“Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am. He’s not the governor of this place,” she said.

“And yet he treated me as if I was his servant, his domestic staff. It is very unfortunate that at this time, after so many years of democracy, the National Assembly is being run under such dictatorship. It’s totally unacceptable.”

Her remarks are expected to reignite tensions within the Red Chamber, where critics of Akpabio have long accused him of intolerance and high-handedness.
