The Nigerian community in India has been thrown into mourning following the shocking death of a 32-year-old Nigerian national, identified as Lucky Ikechkwuijeh, during a violent altercation with fellow countrymen in Nalasopara, Maharashtra.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at approximately 10:45 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, near Pragatinagar, Nalasopara East, just outside a local grocery store. Eyewitnesses reported that a heated argument broke out between Lucky and three other Nigerians, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Investigators from Tulinj Police Station revealed that Lucky was allegedly attacked with a glass bottle before being repeatedly punched and kicked by the suspects. The injuries sustained were severe, causing Lucky to collapse at the scene. Despite efforts to rush him to a nearby medical facility, he succumbed to his wounds shortly after the attack.

Within hours of the incident, police successfully apprehended the three suspects involved in the altercation. They have been identified as:

  • Ayoola Babajide Barthlomew (50)

  • Oghene Igere (47)

  • Odia Izu Peculiar (50)

The case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which covers the offense of murder. Senior officers from the Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Commissionerate confirmed that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue into the motive behind the attack.

Lucky’s body has been sent for autopsy, and authorities are now working closely with the Nigerian Embassy in India to facilitate necessary consular procedures and possible repatriation of the remains.
