Love, Choices, and Lessons: The Story of Tarekeme and Ebiere

Life often teaches us lessons in unexpected ways. Sometimes through joy, sometimes through heartbreak, and other times through stories that balance both with a touch of humor. Such is the case of Tarekeme, a son of Agadagba-Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

During his final year at the Federal University of Science and Technology, Akure, Tarekeme was in a relationship with a Yoruba lady. But his family did not approve. As many African families believe, cultural compatibility is as important as love. On one Christmas holiday back home, he met Ebiere, a beautiful Arogbo girl. She seemed like the perfect answer to his family’s concerns, and their relationship blossomed.

For two years, Tarekeme loved her sincerely. Even after securing a modest job with the Ministry of Education in Akure, he gave his best to make her happy. His love was genuine, and he eventually proposed. But the reality was that Ebiere’s heart was far from him.

Cracks began to show. One Christmas, Tarekeme gave her money to buy foodstuffs for her mother. When he asked her to also get some for his own mother, Ebiere’s reply was startling: since he had already bought zinc and nails to repair his mother’s leaking roof, that should be “enough.” A mother’s love, reduced to zinc and roofing sheets — that was the day Tarekeme’s heart grew uneasy.

Strange dreams confirmed his fears. And soon, the truth came out in the open. An SMS from another lover, Aderimoh, exposed her infidelity. That was the final straw. The engagement ended, and the relationship dissolved.

Years have passed. Today, Tarekeme is a director at the Ministry of Education, proof that God’s plan always works out better. Ebiere, on the other hand, married a palm wine tapper, who sadly died after falling from a tree, and later remarried again. Life took them on very different paths.

1. Love should be built on character, not just beauty.

2. Family warnings are not always blind; sometimes they see what love hides.

3. Wisdom in relationships saves from lifelong regrets.

4. God’s redirections are blessings in disguise.

Tarekeme’s story reminds us that heartbreak is not always the end — sometimes, it is the very thing that clears the path for destiny.
