A three-minute video, now widely circulated, repeated the claim multiple times, insisting that the “West controls Nigeria’s politics” and that Trump was personally involved.

Fact-Checking the Allegation

Dubawa, a leading fact-checking platform, reviewed the claim and found no evidence to support it. No credible media outlets — local or international — have reported any statement from Donald Trump regarding Tinubu or Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

Further scrutiny of Trump’s public engagements shows that his recent speeches and activities have focused largely on U.S. domestic issues — including immigration policy, economic debates, and his ongoing legal battles.

Indeed, the only time Trump has mentioned Nigeria in recent years has been in the context of illegal immigration to the United States — not Nigeria’s internal politics.

This is not the first time Trump’s name has been dragged into Nigerian politics. Previously, a manipulated video circulated online, falsely suggesting that Trump had commented on Tinubu’s administration. That video was later exposed as an old NBC interview unrelated to Nigeria.
