Breaking News: Concerned Itsekiri Raises Alarm Over INEC Registration and Pending Delineation Report

By Prince O. D. Agbedeyi PhD

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues its voter registration exercise across Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West, a concerned Itsekiri voice has raised strong concerns about the political implications of the exercise in light of the yet-to-be-implemented delineation report ordered by the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Ruling Yet to Be Implemented

Although the Supreme Court mandated a delineation exercise, the final report has not been published or enforced. This uncertainty, according to the Itsekiri citizen, means that the ongoing INEC registration data will form the real foundation for any future delineation ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Itsekiris Are Sleeping While Neighbors Mobilize”

The concerned Itsekiri lamented that while the Ijaws and Urhobos are mobilizing heavily, the Itsekiris are once again “reacting too late.”

“Our neighbors are registering in droves, even importing registrants into their communities to boost numbers. Meanwhile, Itsekiris are watching as if nothing is at stake. Unless Ogiame releases funds, nothing moves. Politicians with ambitions in 2027 are shockingly silent, as though unaware their political careers are at risk.”

The citizen warned that the Ijaws are fighting aggressively because they know their ambition for the governorship and the Speaker’s seat may be lost if they fail to secure numerical strength.

Registration as the Decisive Battleground

According to the opinion expressed, this ongoing registration is not just routine—it is the defining moment that will determine which ethnic group holds the majority advantage in the coming delineation.

“Once INEC publishes the data, nobody will listen to complaints again. If the Itsekiri, Ijaw, or Urhobo fail to mobilize now, all the protests and struggles against the last fraudulent delineation will have been in vain.”

A Call to Action

The concerned Itsekiri stressed the need for urgent mobilization:

“We cannot keep crying after the deed has been done. The government has given everyone a fair chance through this INEC registration. If we fail again, then the political map of Warri North, South, and South West will be redrawn against us before 2027.”

The Road Ahead

With the delineation report still pending, this voter registration is seen as the ultimate test of strength among the Ijaws, Urhobos, and Itsekiris. The concerned voice has therefore called for Itsekiris to abandon complacency and take active measures, or risk losing political relevance in the years to come.
