The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has thrown its weight solidly behind the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), High Chief Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro, PhD, commending his exceptional and transformative leadership. In a passionate declaration signed by its key executives, the IYC affirmed that under Dr. Otuaro’s stewardship, the PAP has witnessed a remarkable revival.
A Leader Shaped by the Struggle
Rooted in the ideals of the Ijaw philosophy of truth and justice, the IYC noted that Dr. Otuaro is not an outsider parachuted into the struggle, but a product of the very movement that birthed the Amnesty Programme. This, they argue, gives him an unmatched understanding of the programme’s essence, as well as the passion and strategic intelligence required to steer it toward its original vision.
Achievements that Speak for Themselves
According to the council, Dr. Otuaro’s administration has achieved tangible results. His consistent engagement with stakeholders – including ex-agitators, youth groups, women leaders, and traditional rulers – has strengthened peace and stability across the Niger Delta. Training and reintegration, the bedrock of the PAP’s mandate, have been revitalized, with vocational education now opening doors for countless young people to become productive members of society.
Financially, stipends are being paid promptly and consistently, with ongoing advocacy for an upward review to meet current economic realities. In the field of education, Dr. Otuaro’s scholarship drive has shattered barriers, turning free education from a political promise into a concrete reality for willing Niger Delta youths.
Calling Out Misguided Detractors
The IYC expressed disappointment at what it described as “misguided calls” for Dr. Otuaro’s removal, urging detractors to abandon their selfish agendas and join hands with the current administration for the collective good of the region. They stressed that opposing such evident progress is not only unpatriotic but also detrimental to the peace and development painstakingly built over the years.
IYC’s Unwavering Commitment
The statement, jointly signed by Comrade Nicholas Igarama (Chairman, IYC Western Zone), Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo Esq. (Secretary, IYC Western Zone), and Comrade Tare Magbei (Information Officer, IYC Western Zone), reaffirmed the council’s readiness to defend Dr. Otuaro’s vision and leadership.
They pledged to ensure the continued success of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, which they described as a lifeline for peace and prosperity in the Niger Delta, and by extension, Nigeria at large.
