Gov. Diri Inspects Ongoing Projects Across Bayelsa, Expresses Satisfaction with Pace of Work

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday embarked on a major inspection tour across the state to assess the progress of key infrastructural projects. The governor expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work ongoing in various strategic locations, emphasizing his administration’s resolve to deliver legacy projects and improve connectivity, especially to riverine communities.

A Grand Tour of Statewide Progress

The governor's inspection spanned several critical infrastructure sites including:

  • Angiama Bridge – a 630-metre landmark structure under construction
  • Oporoma Road – a crucial link to Southern Ijaw communities
  • Otuan Road and Angiama-Eniwari Road – major rural access routes
  • Polaku–Sabagreia Road – vital to movement within Yenagoa environs
  • 25,000 Capacity Stadium – a future sports and entertainment hub
  • Glory Drive Phase 3 and Imgbi Link Bridge – easing urban traffic flow
  • 9-Storey Secretariat Complex – a new administrative powerhouse for the state
  • Road 1 of New Yenagoa – connecting to Amassoma-Airport corridor

Governor Diri stated that the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road, long relegated to plans for over six decades, is now being realized under his administration, adding that no community in the state would be left behind.

“As a government, we are happy with the pace of work on the different project sites, and we know the people of Bayelsa are also happy. Our government is committed to linking more riverine communities by roads,” – Governor Douye Diri.

Leaders and Lawmakers Join Inspection

The governor was accompanied by top political and technical stakeholders including:

  • Rt. Hon. Monday Edwin Bubou Obolo – Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly
  • Hon. Anthony Alapala Ebitonmo – Delta State lawmaker representing Burutu Constituency 1
  • ESV Moses Teibowei – Hon. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure
  • Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo – Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House
  • Engr. Ebiye Tarabina – Chairman, Directorate of Project Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Other top government functionaries and project engineers

The tour reaffirmed the administration's promise to deliver on campaign promises, particularly with projects that touch on economic development, ease of transportation, and regional integration. Diri emphasized that rural communities will benefit greatly from these works, ensuring no part of the state is marginalized.

Voices of the People

Locals, community leaders, and construction workers expressed gratitude for the government’s proactive involvement and oversight. One elder in Southern Ijaw stated:

“This is the first time in decades we’re seeing a governor so serious about finishing the Oporoma road. It gives us hope.”
