Renowned philanthropist and Chairman of Platform Petroleum Limited, High Chief (Dr.) Dumo Lulu-Briggs, delivered a memorable moment of inspiration and generosity at the 30th Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony of Air Force Secondary School, Port Harcourt. The occasion, themed “Future-Proofing Education”, celebrated academic achievement and emphasized the importance of preparing students for the evolving demands of the 21st century.
As the Grand Patron of the event, Dr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs made an unprecedented donation of ₦27.9 million to support both the students and the institution. His contribution extended beyond material support—it embodied vision, values, and the deep commitment to nation-building through education.
A Legacy of Giving and Empowerment
Among the highlights of the event was the award of ₦1 million each to the school’s top Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scorer and best graduating female student—an empowerment gesture that visibly moved students and parents alike.
To immortalize the spirit of academic excellence and family legacy, the philanthropist also announced the establishment of an annual ₦2.5 million trust fund in memory of his late father, High Chief (Dr.) O.B. Lulu-Briggs. This fund, he explained, will serve as a permanent vehicle for recognizing and rewarding excellence in the school’s academic community.
Strengthening School Infrastructure and Innovation
Dr. Lulu-Briggs further donated ₦2 million to the school’s magazine committee and took the honour of unveiling The Cockpit Magazine—a 90-page student-driven publication that showcases creative writing, academic essays, and school activities.
Reaffirming Platform Petroleum Limited’s commitment to education, he announced a fresh ₦20 million grant to complete the school’s library project. This comes in addition to a prior ₦50 million contribution to the school’s infrastructural development.
A Story of Perseverance and Hope
In a deeply personal and emotional address, Dumo Lulu-Briggs shared his own story of overcoming hardship and rising through perseverance. He urged the graduating students to stay focused, grounded in faith, and to never be discouraged by challenges.
“Life no easy, but with discipline, faith, and grit, una fit reach anywhere,” he said in a blend of English and Pidgin, drawing warm applause from students and guests alike.
A Parting Gift from a Visionary
As the ceremony drew to a close, Dr. Lulu-Briggs surprised the audience once again with an additional ₦2.84 million gift to be shared among the graduating students. This final gesture ensured that every student left the event with not just memories—but a tangible token of encouragement for the next chapter of their journey.
Shaping the Future Through Leadership
The 30th Graduation Ceremony of Air Force Secondary School will long be remembered—not just for the glitz, or the speeches, but for the transformative impact of one man’s generosity. Through his presence, his personal story, and his material support, High Chief (Dr.) Dumo Lulu-Briggs reminded Nigeria—and indeed Africa—that with visionary leadership and a heart for the youth, the future of education can be secured.
For many students, this event was not just an end—it was a beginning fueled by the inspiration and hope planted by a man who understands the power of giving back.
