Speaking at a well-attended Thanksgiving Service at the St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja, held to mark the successful commissioning of key FCT projects by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wike delivered a scathing dismissal of Peter Obi’s political future, declaring that "his time has passed."

“They say Peter Obi will be President… President where? Out of emotion, most of you are just following someone you don’t know,” Wike told the congregation and political associates present.
The Minister, a key player in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former powerbroker in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), criticized what he described as blind emotional loyalty exhibited by Obi's supporters — popularly known as "Obidients" — stating that their support is rooted more in sentiments than substance.

“Only Obi was Governor and chairman of all the local governments in Anambra State at the same time,” Wike stated.“Now he is saying democracy is not working — but it worked in his time?”

“I am a realist. I deal with reality and numbers, not emotions,” Wike was quoted as saying in an earlier media appearance.“Supporting Peter Obi was never going to change the outcome.”
Wike was then a G5 Governor, part of a rebellious group within the PDP that opted to back the APC’s Bola Tinubu instead of their party’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.
