Lagos, Nigeria – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has raised serious concerns over the escalating violence in the South-East region of Nigeria. In a strongly worded post made via his official Facebook page on Thursday, the outspoken politician blamed elements within the Igbo community for what he termed “self-inflicted violence.”
Igbokwe, who hails from Anambra State and is known for his unapologetic political commentary, dismissed the longstanding claims that Fulani herdsmen are responsible for the spate of insecurity in the South-East. Instead, he accused fellow Igbos of turning their region into a theatre of chaos while attempting to externalize the blame.
“The blatant and pathological lies about the killings and destruction in the South East can no longer stand. It is Igbo killing Igbo, it is Igbo destroying Igboland and put the blame on Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. This is not our culture. This is sad,” he wrote.
The APC stalwart's comment comes amidst growing public outrage and concern over violent attacks, kidnappings, and killings that have rocked various parts of the South-East, often attributed to unknown gunmen or herdsmen.
Igbokwe has remained a consistent voice challenging what he perceives as a culture of silence or misdirection in the region. His statement appears to have reignited conversations around accountability, community self-examination, and the broader security crisis confronting Nigeria.
“Ethnic Bigotry Growing Like Wildfire” – Igbokwe Warns

Echoing deep concerns about the country's fragile unity, Igbokwe stated that many Nigerians are blind to the consequences of sowing and nurturing tribal hatred.
“Good morning Nigerians! Ethnic bigotry is growing hopelessly like wildfire in Nigeria, and our eyes are not open to see the danger. I pray that the veil covering our eyes will be removed so that we can see clearly. Make we de play ooo,” he said.
The statement highlights growing fears that Nigeria’s political and social fabric could be further torn apart if tribalism, ethnic profiling, and regional stereotyping are not addressed with sincerity and urgency.
