In a landmark effort to amplify adolescent health awareness in Delta State, the Wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to safeguarding the future of the girl-child through active vaccination and advocacy.
The First Lady, who is also the Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, was duly represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Catherine Onyeme, at the official launch of the OYA Campaign. The event took place on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
🎯 A Campaign with Purpose: “Protecting Our Girls Against Cervical Cancer”
Themed “Protecting Our Girls Against Cervical Cancer Through HPV Vaccination,” the OYA Campaign is a powerful initiative that aims to reduce the burden of cervical cancer in the state by targeting girls aged 9 to 14 for early HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination.
The campaign is a strategic collaboration between Girl Effect, a global nonprofit focused on girls' empowerment, and the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA).
📊 331,919 Girls Reached Since May 2024
Delivering her address through Mrs. Onyeme, Deaconess Oborevwori revealed an impressive milestone: over 331,919 adolescent girls in Delta State have already received the HPV vaccine since its rollout in May 2024.
“This initiative is not only timely, it is life-saving. The protection of our daughters from preventable diseases such as cervical cancer is a responsibility we must all share,” she stated.
🏆 Advocacy Recognized: Girl Respects HPV Vaccination Vanguard Award
Her Excellency also expressed deep appreciation for being honored with the Girl Respects HPV Vaccination Vanguard Award, a recognition that celebrates champions of girl-child health.
In her remarks, she reaffirmed her foundation’s commitment to community outreach, maternal and child health programs, and ongoing awareness efforts on HPV prevention and nutrition.
