2027: Peter Obi Vows to Stabilize Nigeria Within Two Years if Elected President

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has officially declared his intention to run for president in the forthcoming 2027 elections, assuring Nigerians of significant transformation and national stability within his first two years in office, if elected.

Speaking during a live X (formerly Twitter) space on Sunday night, Obi expressed unwavering commitment to the Nigerian people. He said, "I will bring stability to Nigeria within two years in office. Leaders of Nigeria should sit down in Nigeria and fix Nigeria."

Belief in Power Rotation and Inclusive Governance

Obi reaffirmed his support for power rotation between the North and South, a principle he implemented during his time as governor of Anambra State. "I believe in the rotation of government between North and South. I implemented it in Anambra as a governor," he said.

On the Labour Party’s internal leadership issues, he confirmed that efforts are underway to ensure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizes the Nenadi Usman-led leadership in accordance with the Supreme Court ruling.

Coalition Must Be Purpose-Driven

Regarding political alliances ahead of 2027, Obi insisted that any coalition must serve national interest. "If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, reviving the economy, or putting food on Nigerians' tables, count me out," he stated. "Nigeria is at war — we must act accordingly."

2027 Elections: “Our Votes Must Count”

Obi vowed to ensure electoral integrity and transparency, adding that the 2027 elections will be approached differently. "We will do things differently in 2027. Our votes will count, and we will ensure they count before any result is announced in Abuja."

Key Priorities in First 100 Days

Obi listed his top three priorities in office:

• Security
• Education
• Poverty Eradication

He pledged to reduce the cost of governance and tackle corruption head-on. "My family will not be involved in corruption. Funds will be directed to critical sectors," he emphasized.

Leadership by Presence and Integrity

Criticizing the current administration, Obi said Nigerian leaders have been disconnected from citizens' real suffering. "People are dying in Benue and Borno, and our leaders are commissioning bus stops and vacationing abroad," he said.

He took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, stating: "Tinubu has not spent one night outside Lagos since assuming office in 2023, yet he’s spending eight nights in St. Lucia—a nation smaller than Ajegunle."

Commitment to Party Discipline

Obi promised to eliminate cross-party defections and strengthen political institutions. "There will be no defection of elected officials under my leadership. We must build strong party institutions," he declared.

A Stable Government for Global Respect

Concluding, Obi emphasized the link between governance and international credibility. "Nobody abroad takes you seriously if you don’t have a stable government. My past speaks loudly. In Anambra, I was always physically present in times of crisis. That’s what leadership means — presence and sacrifice."
