All roads will soon lead to Odi, the largest and most industrious community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, as it prepares to host the prestigious ODI OGORI BA UGE Festival, taking place from July 27 to August 5, 2025.

Set along the majestic banks of the River Nun, near the parent River Niger, Odi is a shining beacon of cultural richness, economic viability, and communal resilience. Once a flourishing agrarian hub in the 1950s, Odi has now grown into an urban council, rightly recognized for its population, size, industrious people, and growing strategic importance in Bayelsa’s socio-economic development.

🌾 A Land of Plenty and Hard Work

Historically self-sufficient, Odi’s agricultural output has been commendable—supplying yams, plantain, and garri not only for internal consumption but also to neighboring communities. Both men and women have always been at the heart of its productivity, working hand in hand in farming, thatch-making, and canoe building.

Odi’s thatches are famously long and durable, setting them apart from others in the entire Kolokuma Clan. The community is highly respected for its superior roofing materials, passed down through generations with pride and precision.

🚣🏽 Canoe Carving: Odi’s Ancient Craft Lives On

Among Odi’s many cultural trademarks, canoe building stands out. The people are revered for crafting massive traditional canoes from cedar, birch, and spruce trees found in the dense forest lands that surround the village. These forests—untouched and rich—continue to provide raw materials for local industry and are the lifeblood of Odi’s economy.

🎭 Culture in Full Bloom

As a community rich in culture and deeply rooted in tradition, Odi is home to some of the most iconic cultural troupes in the Yenagoa Division. Groups like the Okosonama, Finiteri, and Kokoma bring the stories, rhythms, and rituals of Odi alive during every festival season, and this year's OGORI BA UGE will be no exception.

Attendees can expect a mesmerizing display of dance, music, traditional rites, and local cuisine as the people of Odi roll out the drums in celebration of their history and progress.

🎤 “A Time to Reflect, Celebrate, and Showcase Odi’s Glory” — Stanley Udisi

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Ebikisei Stanley Udisi, in his remarks, described the festival as a special moment for introspection and celebration. “Odi has remained resilient and proud, evolving with time without losing its soul. This year’s celebration will be historic,” he said.

Indeed, ODI OGORI BA UGE 2025 is more than a festival—it is a showcase of identity, a reaffirmation of dignity, and a colorful testament to the heritage that binds generations together.
