Governor Oborevwori Rallies Civil Servants Toward Accelerated Service Delivery Ahead of 2030 SDGs Target

In a resounding call to duty and national development, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged civil servants to renew their commitment to efficiency, innovation, and impactful service delivery as the state intensifies efforts toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Governor made this charge on Monday at the 2025 Civil Service Week Celebration, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba. Themed: “Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future,” the event drew top government functionaries, senior bureaucrats, administrative leaders, and key development stakeholders from across the state.
In his keynote address, Governor Oborevwori described the civil service as the indispensable engine room of governance, stressing that no government policy, program, or reform can succeed without a committed, visionary, and professionally grounded workforce.
“The civil service remains the backbone of any government. To achieve the ambitious targets set by the SDGs, we must embrace innovation, discipline, and unwavering dedication to duty.”
The MORE Agenda: Reforming from the Inside Out
Governor Oborevwori used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to deep-rooted civil service reforms under the MORE Agenda — a strategic vision built on Meaningful Development, Opportunity for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
He highlighted the state’s increasing investments in:
- Modern administrative tools and digital technologies
- Human capital development and continuous staff training
- Transparent, merit-based appointments and promotions
- Improved welfare packages and conducive work environments
“We are not just investing in infrastructure; we are investing in the people behind the process. Our vision is to build a proactive, innovative, and responsive workforce — a civil service that is fit for the future.”
He urged public servants to reciprocate government efforts by aligning their work ethics with the state’s development vision, demonstrating loyalty, professionalism, and measurable impact in every assignment.
Civil Servants as Key Drivers of 2030 Goals
With only five years left to the global SDG deadline, Governor Oborevwori reminded the workforce that the time for passive service is over. According to him, every ministry, department, and agency must begin to embed sustainability, equity, and efficiency into their daily operations.
“From health to education, infrastructure to youth empowerment, civil servants must begin to see themselves not just as implementers, but as critical stakeholders in shaping the Delta of tomorrow.”
The Governor’s message was greeted with applause and a renewed sense of purpose by attendees, many of whom pledged to take ownership of their roles and deliver results that align with Delta State’s strategic transformation.
