In what many observers are describing as a political rebirth for the riverine Egbema Kingdom, leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Warri North Local Government Area convened in Warri for a landmark political summit that reshaped the party’s future trajectory in the region.
The gathering, held under an atmosphere of renewed hope and strategic focus, brought together party stalwarts, youth voices, and women leaders from the four APC wards that make up the Egbema bloc. The centerpiece of the occasion was the unanimous appointment of High Chief Promise Lawuru (Ozigizaga 1) as the National Leader of APC in Egbema Kingdom.
“This is not just a title—it is a mandate for justice, equity, and transformation,” declared Comr. Gemuge A.S., the motion mover, a respected former APC Organizing Secretary and pioneer Chairman of the Egbema Political Forum.
His motion was promptly seconded by Mr. Juwegha Moses, a grassroots youth leader from Opuama Ward 7.
🏛️ Lawuru Accepts with Fire and Purpose
In his emotionally charged acceptance speech, High Chief Lawuru minced no words. He openly rebuked successive political administrations for marginalizing the Egbema people, especially in key appointments within Warri North.
“Enough is enough,” Lawuru said. “No ethnic group should hold a monopoly over appointments. We are co-owners of this LGA, and our time to speak, act, and lead is now!”
He extended a passionate appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to address the glaring ethnic imbalance in Warri North’s political structure, where key offices like commissioner and assembly seats have long been concentrated in a single ethnic group.
Lawuru also pledged to steer APC affairs with grassroots inclusiveness, fairness, and collective leadership, emphasizing unity as the bedrock for political revival in the kingdom.
✝️ A Prophetic Touch: Pastor Gbasin’s Biblical Charge
The occasion took a deeply spiritual turn as renowned community leader, Pastor Philip Gbasin, likened Lawuru’s appointment to the biblical coronation of King Josiah, the young reformer king of Judah.
“God raised Josiah to bring change, peace, and revival,” Pastor Gbasin declared. “In the same spirit, we urge our new leader to seek divine wisdom, surround himself with godly counsel, and lead this kingdom to political and moral renewal.”
🧓 Elders, Women, and Stakeholders Back the Movement
Elder Edmund E. Doyah Tiemo, Chairman of the Egbema Leaders of Thought (ELOT), who was also endorsed with a vote of confidence, praised the impressive turnout. He called for unity against insecurity, underdevelopment, and internal division.
Mrs. Flora Oghomiriona, APC LGA Woman Leader, celebrated the event as a turning point for women’s political inclusion in Egbema and the broader Warri North axis.
“With leaders like Lawuru and Tiemo, our women have new hope, and our voices will no longer be in the background,” she said.
Other notable stakeholders present at the event included:
- Hon. Barry Apataimini – Ward 9 Chairman, Ogbinbiri
- Mr. Paul Toruwei – President, Polobubo Bloc of Communities
- Mr. Fiyah Henry Lelekumo – Former APC Secretary, Warri North
They all reaffirmed their commitment to reviving APC’s presence in Egbema and pledged loyalty to the newly appointed leader.
🙏 Closing with Thanks and Prayer
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Chief Ambassador Ebi Eyenmi (JP), who praised the organizers and all attendees for their unity and courage.
In a solemn moment of reflection and hope, Pastor Philip Gbasin led the closing prayer, blessing the new leadership and committing the future of APC Egbema into divine hands.
🔚 A New Chapter Begins
With this bold declaration of leadership, the APC in Egbema Kingdom is repositioned for strength, growth, and strategic dominance ahead of the 2027 elections. High Chief Lawuru’s appointment signals a bold new era defined by unity, inclusion, and fearless representation.
