In a disturbing development that raises urgent national security concerns, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally disclaimed a series of fraudulent activities involving the cloning and unauthorized use of her official mobile phone number.
According to a petition submitted to the Director of the National Cybercrimes Centre of the Nigeria Police Force by her legal counsel, Michael Jonathan Numa, SAN, FPD.UK, unknown individuals have cloned Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s phone number and are using it to impersonate her identity across multiple high-profile channels.
The legal notice described the impersonation as a gross violation of her privacy and a potential breach of national security, citing several alarming incidents:
- Ifedayo Adams Adedipe, SAN received a suspicious call from the cloned number, promising follow-up communication.
- The Maitama Area Commander returned a call supposedly made by the Senator—who never initiated it.
- Mr. Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television received a call with voice mimicry replicating the Senator’s speech patterns, indicating advanced impersonation techniques.
Even more shockingly, several eminent Nigerians have also reportedly been targeted by these impersonators:
- Hon. Emmanuel Ekon (Akwa Ibom State)
- Senator Ben Obi, former Vice Presidential Candidate
- Chief John Odigie Oyegun, former APC National Chairman
- Allen Onyema, CEO of Air Peace
These incidents suggest a sustained, coordinated cyber-attack designed not just to tarnish Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s reputation, but to possibly manipulate or deceive national stakeholders using her identity.
A Formal Disclaimer Issued
The law firm representing the Senator has now publicly disclaimed any phone call, voice note, or message allegedly from her number unless directly confirmed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or her legal representatives. The public is advised to treat such communications with extreme caution.
Urgent Call for Cybercrime Investigation
The legal team has requested a full-scale forensic investigation by the National Cybercrimes Centre to identify, unmask, and prosecute those responsible. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has volunteered her mobile device and communication data to assist the authorities.
This incident underscores the growing danger of cyber impersonation, especially when targeted at public figures of national importance.
Global Egberi Media International will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
