As Nigeria prepares to mark another Democracy Day, the Secretary of the Abere Youth Council, Mr. Biriemi Powei, has sent a heartfelt and timely message to the youth of Egbema Kingdom, encouraging them to uphold peace, unity, and purposeful celebration amidst reports of a proposed nationwide protest.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr. Powei emphasized the need for calm and wisdom in how young people engage with the current socio-political atmosphere. He reminded the youths of Egbema that while it's natural to feel frustrated or unheard in a democratic society, true patriotism lies in choosing dialogue, peace, and constructive participation over protest and disruption.

“Democracy Day is around the corner, and there's talk of a nationwide protest,” Mr. Powei noted. “Let us think carefully about our actions and prioritize peace and stability. We want our kingdom to keep progressing and developing.”

Mr. Powei stressed that Egbema Kingdom has always been known for its unity, resilience, and forward-thinking spirit. He urged young people to channel their energy into meaningful activities that will strengthen the bonds of the community and bring about real progress. Rather than participating in protests, he proposed that this Democracy Day be used for fun, reflection, and unity, offering an opportunity to renew hope, celebrate democratic values, and imagine a brighter future for all.

“Instead of protesting, let’s come together and celebrate Democracy Day with fun, reflection, and unity. Let’s build a brighter future for our community,” he said.

Democracy Day, marked annually on June 12, honors the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes and the enduring spirit of the Nigerian people. Mr. Powei’s message comes at a critical time, as many across the nation debate how best to express their civic rights amidst economic and social challenges.

In closing, the youth secretary extended warm Democracy Day wishes to all sons and daughters of Egbema Kingdom, calling on them to be torchbearers of peace and ambassadors of hope.

“Happy Democracy Day to all! May we continue to grow in wisdom, strength, and unity,” he concluded.

Global Egberi Media International joins the call for peace and encourages every youth in the Niger Delta and beyond to reflect on the true meaning of democracy — not just as a system of government, but as a shared commitment to progress, justice, and inclusive development.
