In a moment of immense pride and celebration, John Nicholas, a brilliant scholar from Peretorugbene community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State.
The momentous announcement was made during the university’s Combined Convocation Ceremony, which took place on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The ceremony was a significant event, celebrating academic excellence across four academic sessions—2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024. A total of 905 graduates were honoured, including an impressive number of 66 First Class degree holders.
Among them, John NicholasCumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95
, the highest among the entire convocation class.His outstanding academic journey did not go unnoticed. In recognition of his excellence, John was conferred with several prestigious awards, including the highly coveted:
- Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence
- Vice-Chancellor’s Prize for Best Graduating Student

The audience at the convocation, comprising parents, traditional rulers, university dons, politicians, and international dignitaries, erupted in resounding applause as John Nicholas mounted the stage, visibly humbled yet radiating brilliance.
Speaking briefly after receiving his awards, John attributed his success to divine grace, discipline, hard work, and the support of his family and mentors. “This honour is not just for me but for my community and every young person out there who believes that education is a ladder to greatness,” he remarked emotionally.
